AGOURA HILLS, Los Angeles County — October 26, 2026. A long-discussed redesign of the Kanan Road and Agoura Road intersection remains an important transportation project for Agoura Hills. The municipality’s published project description explains the planned safety and traffic changes, and a 2026 City Council agenda shows further engineering and right-of-way work under consideration. That is different from saying the intersection has already been rebuilt.

What the proposed redesign involves

The City of Agoura Hills describes the Kanan/Agoura intersection project as a component of the Agoura Village Specific Plan, intended to manage traffic as nearby residential and commercial uses develop. The city’s public project page describes redesigned corner areas, circulation improvements, undergrounding of overhead electrical infrastructure and monument signage.

The city also says designs were refined to preserve heritage oak trees while improving vehicle movement. These are the municipality’s project objectives; actual impacts and final conditions depend on adopted plans and completed construction.

What was on the council’s August 26, 2026 agenda?

The council’s August 26 agenda included a recommendation for an eighth amendment to the agreement with Kimley-Horn and Associates, requesting additional engineering design, right-of-way acquisition services and a contract-term extension. This indicates continued administrative and design work in 2026. The appearance of a recommendation on an agenda does not by itself establish that the council approved it; residents should consult the signed resolution, minutes or meeting video to verify final action.

What is known about funding?

The city’s project description states that design work used Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority regional Measure R and Measure M funds. The same page lists construction funding anticipated under regional Measure M in fiscal years 2025–26 and 2026–27. Those are the posted funding arrangements and planning periods, not a guarantee that road work commenced on those dates or that the project remained unchanged.

What residents and businesses should watch

The questions still requiring current documentation are the final engineering plan, any right-of-way changes, updated contract funding, construction bid award and specific traffic detours. Until a current city construction bulletin appears, drivers should not treat old project webpages as notice of an active road closure.
